About Liz Hodgson
I’m a Calgary-born writer living in Toronto and asking myself… given how things are going, should I be making my way back there?
In the meantime, Toronto’s been good to me. Writing-wise, I’ve been able to ply my trade all over the map—TV, radio, newspapers. All of which culminated in one shining career crack-high: composing meta descriptions for M&M Food Market (150 characters max, including spaces). The product was frozen patties and this masterpiece just came to me: ‘these frozen meat patties are the best you ever thaw.’
Other than that, I’ve enjoyed my time here on Substack writing on the intersection of politics and culture. My last entry observed how Jaguar’s recent “copy nothing” rebrand was a depressing reminder of the decline of British culture from its 60s-era high watermark.
You might like “The ‘Animal House’ Election,” in which I compare MAGA to the underdog heroes in a good old-fashioned ‘slobs versus snobs’ comedy.
If you’ve been paying attention to the Trudeau saga, you might enjoy my “Our ‘Dirty John’ Prime Minister,” in which I compare the PM to the nefarious George Wickham in Pride & Prejudice.
I hope you’ll dig in let me know what you think.
